First, I want to wish everyone an outstanding year and decade; whether your 2009 was excellent or terrible, here's to a 2010 that's even better!
Second, the Online Film Critics Society has announced our nominations for our 2009 awards. The whole list is here; I shan't share my thoughts on the overall quality of the list, but I will just point out some stats: Inglourious Basterds leads the nominations with 8, The Hurt Locker follows with 7, District 9 and Up in the Air each have 5, and A Serious Man and Up each have 4. When I put up my year-end list later today, you'll be able to compare what I think are the best films of 2009 with what my colleagues chose collectively, but I'd bet a lot of you are probably already able to guess.

Just a few rules so that everybody can have fun: ad hominem attacks on the blogger are fair; ad hominem attacks on other commenters will be deleted. And I will absolutely not stand for anything that is, in my judgment, demeaning, insulting or hateful to any gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion. And though I won't insist on keeping politics out, let's think long and hard before we say anything particularly inflammatory.
Also, sorry about the whole "must be a registered user" thing, but I do deeply hate to get spam, and I refuse to take on the totalitarian mantle of moderating comments, and I am much too lazy to try to migrate over to a better comments system than the one that comes pre-loaded with Blogger.
i take MAJOR issue with Mauro Fiore getting nominated with Best Cinematography for Avatar. i get that there is still lighting involved in CGI and all, and that there were live action portions of the movie, but the live action parts looked like futuristic crap, for the most part, and the CGI- well, it's just that: COMPUTER GENERATED. not cinematography.
