It's a film that absolutely boggles me. I was miserable while watching it, yet found myself continually impressed by it.Daniel Silberberghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08685707813625269747noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-89795224783635838922011-12-27T17:19:19.631-06:002011-12-27T17:19:19.631-06:00Gilliam did have another top 10 box office success...Gilliam did have another top 10 box office success with The Brothers Grimm, a film far darker and creepier than Time Bandits. My wife loved it though, so I'm happy.

I love the way Gilliam makes movies, though I don't love them equally by any means. Anytime a man is able to spew forth a vision as unique as his, it's a good thing. Taste and restraint can help, but if you have to jettison either restraint or artistry, you know what I'll choose.

For my money, the Gilliam film that sticks with me the most is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The fun parts are fun, and the not fun parts are not supposed to be. I think Gilliam really got Hunter S. Thompson's material in a way that few other directors would be able to.

Other than that, I felt that Brazil was a fabulous outpouring of Gilliam's brain onto celluloid. It was unashamedly juvenile, and even it's imperfections made the film more interesting.David Greenwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03666205737413060006noreply@blogger.com
