It'll be the extended cut; out of respect to the filmmakers, and because I've never seen it.

Zev- My Fair Lady is a movie I really desperately wish I loved. I like it. I like it - there's nothing bad about it - just a ghastly airless to everything.

The.Watcher- You, sir, have a treat in store for you, and I hope you come back to share your thoughts.

Mr. K- I originally made the same point about parodies, but it didn't flow well and I figured, "well, somebody's bound to bring it up in comments", and here you have! So in thanks, I shall review Run, Ronnie, Run gratis.Timhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09491952893581644049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-15083865811676246742010-11-30T21:38:15.359-06:002010-11-30T21:38:15.359-06:00And even the parodies testify to the endurance of ...And even the parodies testify to the endurance of the movie. THE SIMPSONS' parody, during their golden age, skillfully pointed out the story's flaws (the sheer wish fulfillment element of someone else resolving all our problems for us) while also showing us that even someone as crass as Bart or Homer can respond to a well-done musical number.

On the other hand, the parody scene cut from RUN, RONNIE, RUN (the musical number with Jack Black) works poorly as a parody, but does make me chortle at the sheer crudity.

I now think I want to donate more money to force you to review RUN, RONNIE, RUN.Mr. Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01489439585866708542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-75619890179344086752010-11-29T23:56:11.477-06:002010-11-29T23:56:11.477-06:00Excellent review, Tim, really, I applaud you!

For a musical I consider among the most perfect ever produced (not a revolutionary claim, I know), the film is very disappointing. The stage version's light touch, peerless wit, and effervescent energy are mostly gone--all of the beats are hit, but the movie feels heavy and overstuffed. It's not a horror show like some adaptations, but it's not nearly as good as it could be. And while Hepburn does decent work (though the dubbing is a serious problem), it feels like you can always see her working, and she's never really convincing as a penniless flower girl. I can't help but think that if Andrews had been able to repeat her gorgeous stage performance, she would have raised the pulse of the entire movie.

On the other hand, I'd never give back her work in Mary Poppins, so perhaps it all worked out.Zev Valancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10239062791827527067noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-85792485069707558122010-11-29T21:26:44.443-06:002010-11-29T21:26:44.443-06:00Does this mean you will review "Bedknobs and ...Does this mean you will review "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" as well?
