This is the same film where the protagonist embraces his wife and says, "You're a lying bitch and if the cops weren't here, I'd split your face", and it treated as a warm embrace!

But it's such a slickly produced, funny as hell movie, with Bruce Willis turning his John McClane character up to 11(5 'o clock shadow, icy glares, deadpan delivery, drenched in cynicism), I can't help but love it. I get in the groove of the film and it works for me. And it's got one of my favorite endings, two guys walking down the street, completely destroying the fourth wall and joking about Satan Claws.

"This is the '90s. You can't just walk up and slap a guy, you have to say something cool first."Jeremyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12219137212221355997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-85529094212211572792013-07-17T01:52:27.858-05:002013-07-17T01:52:27.858-05:00Also, this is probably pointed out in either the H...Also, this is probably pointed out in either the Halloween 4 or 5 review, but Danielle Harris was one of the best child actors ever.Brianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04546972990126033036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-69127323527114227052013-07-17T01:47:33.252-05:002013-07-17T01:47:33.252-05:00Me and the wife watched this movie just last night...Me and the wife watched this movie just last night because she had never seen it and I hadn't seen it in years. What struck us both was how weird the whole thing is. It's tonally all over the map, definitely uneven, but, I feel the climax justifies most of it because it goes so far over the top you have no choice but to let it wash over you. I mean (SPOILERS) Wayans riding a horse over the football field, lobbing a pigskin at the senator to get his attention, one of the villains being shredded by a helicopter propeller and then Willis dancing a bizarre jig in celebration that's broadcast over the jumbotron... I mean...wtf?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04634087887519608773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-16886826431517274682013-07-17T00:01:45.732-05:002013-07-17T00:01:45.732-05:00There is a LOT of truth to that. The McClane v5 as Joe Hallenbeck thing, I mean.

Though the football scene is gloriously surreal, no doubt about that.Timhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09491952893581644049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-27475501254324217792013-07-16T21:42:40.087-05:002013-07-16T21:42:40.087-05:00The thing I find most fascinating about this movie...The thing I find most fascinating about this movie is, contrary to oft stated belief, how much it influenced the character of John McClane in DHwaV.

Seriously, as much as it is said that Willis just played McClane again here, he really much more played Joe as McClain in the third Die Hard. The crushing cynicism, the collapsing marriage, the alcoholism...

Also, that football scene remains one of the most surreal things I have ever seen on film.Brianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04546972990126033036noreply@blogger.com
