I DO NOT THINK THAT COCKSUCKING WORD MEANS WHAT YOU FUCKING THINK IT MEANS
To David Mamet:
I dearly love your work, and I think you are one of the most important living playwrights.
But in order to no longer be a "brain-dead liberal," as you claim in the Village Voice, you would have to have been a liberal in the first place.
Mr. Mamet, you wrote American Buffalo and Oleanna.
Please shut up before you embarrass yourself further.

Just a few rules so that everybody can have fun: ad hominem attacks on the blogger are fair; ad hominem attacks on other commenters will be deleted. And I will absolutely not stand for anything that is, in my judgment, demeaning, insulting or hateful to any gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion. And though I won't insist on keeping politics out, let's think long and hard before we say anything particularly inflammatory.
Also, sorry about the whole "must be a registered user" thing, but I do deeply hate to get spam, and I refuse to take on the totalitarian mantle of moderating comments, and I am much too lazy to try to migrate over to a better comments system than the one that comes pre-loaded with Blogger.
Mamet's always struck me as a pretty solidly libertarian dude -- which, as you say, is why I'm not sure what this Transformation entails. To be sure, though, in the past several years he's made it clear that he reviles the Palestinian people and the two-state solution, and once you refer to NPR as National Palestinian Radio, you've pretty much shut a door behind you.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be interesting if (when?) he wins a Nobel for literature if we hear the same griping we heard about Pinter's prize. Wait, what am I talking about? Of course we won't.
