Just a few rules so that everybody can have fun: ad hominem attacks on the blogger are fair; ad hominem attacks on other commenters will be deleted. And I will absolutely not stand for anything that is, in my judgment, demeaning, insulting or hateful to any gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion. And though I won't insist on keeping politics out, let's think long and hard before we say anything particularly inflammatory.
Also, sorry about the whole "must be a registered user" thing, but I do deeply hate to get spam, and I refuse to take on the totalitarian mantle of moderating comments, and I am much too lazy to try to migrate over to a better comments system than the one that comes pre-loaded with Blogger.
Adam just donated, requests "Ghostbusters".
ReplyDeleteSomething is wrong with the Paypal button thingy in this post, but the one under Tim's picture works just fine.
ReplyDeleteRebecca, thanks. I think I've fixed it everywhere it needed fixing.
ReplyDeleteSo, apparently PayPal thinks my hometown is Macomb. It's actually Bolingbrook, IL, but I live in Madison, WI.
ReplyDeleteStill thinking about the review I'd like to request. I remember there was a movie I was very much wanted to know your opinion on but can't remember what it is right now.
Happy to help.
ReplyDeleteSince I haven't heard back from you, I suppose I will modify my request to a piece on the work of Charles B. Pierce.
Because lord knows that crazy, incompetent, Ben Johnson loving man deserved more obits then he got when he died.
$15 dollars.
ReplyDeleteI would like a review of " The Sandlot," please.
I really enjoyed the one of "The Princess bride," so i'd think another one of my childhood favorites that i still enjoy today would be nice.
oh, im from downers grove, IL as well.
ReplyDeleteHey, good for you, reaping all these donations so quickly! Good luck as you keep climbing toward your new goal. Come over any time and pick something off the shelf that you'd like to review.
ReplyDeleteI just donated, and request that we co-write a piece on "Cradle Will Rock." Because it is an awesome movie, especially if you are a leftist theatre person.
ReplyDeleteI'm just now catching up with my favorite blogs after being away for a bit on a mini-vacation. This was really moving stuff, Tim, and I thank you for sharing it. I get paid at the end of the month...I will scrape some money together by then. Oh, and I'll think of something for you to write about (if I still qualify by the time I donate, hehe) that, naturally, has something to do with Italian horror.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for sharing this with all of us.
Hey, I just donated (as Robert Karol).
ReplyDeleteI'd like to request a top ten article of your favorite b-movie actors (or favorite b-movie performances). The kind of people
If that's not feasible, then I'd like a review of Visconti's THE DAMNED.
...and I'm back. Just donated. Thanks again for sharing your story with us all.
ReplyDeletei usually don't donate to private, unofficial paypal accounts, but if that's what i need to do to get my Pratchett-centric essay, then by jove, I will!
ReplyDeleteOr if that's not eligible, to almost-complete my tim-reviewed top ten, Cyrano (the Weber one)
I don't usually either, so I'm especially glad that you've taken the plunge on this one. But for Vianney and everyone else with some hesitation: I'm trying to keep this as transparent as possible, so that anyone who donated can double-check that I've recorded their money in front of God and everyone. Every month on the 19th, I'm going to do some housekeeping to that effect.
ReplyDeleteI'm the first donation from the Southeastern portion of America, yay! Anyways, I'd like to request a top ten article on "Best Documentaries", if you're still doing the request thing that is.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Tim for being so transparent with us. I have no problem getting behind a cause that obviously means so much to you.
Keel up the good work. I absolutely love reading your blog and will continue doing so far into the foreseeable future.
Just donated $16, in the hopes that I get to push the total ever so slightly over the top, to $751.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see you do a piece on the theatrical and "assembly cut" versions of Alien3, from whatever angle you like. I think it's a fascinating, terribly underrated film, like a troubled kid who can--with some justification--say his parents screwed him up.
Just donated... again, it turns out. The first time, I thought I was just generally contributing to the site for its awesome reviews. ;)
ReplyDeleteSince I donated twice, could I request two reviews? You discussed Disney's competitors right up until the Second Golden Age. But I would be interested to see reviews on some animated films competitors tried to make to compete with the Disney juggernaut. Two in particular come to mind: The Prince of Egypt (Dreamworks) and Anastasia (Fox/Don Bluth).
Tim, I just want to say that you never cease to amaze and entertain with your astute analysis.
ReplyDeleteOk, so I finally got around to donating... for awhile I really wrestled with what review to request from you and a couple of days ago it occurred to me so I'm just going to go with it.... 'Repulsion'
So I went and donated again.... yep! This time with a kind of special request: "Le Village des Ombres" by Fouad Benhammou.
ReplyDeleteJust donated $15. After reading your reviews of Paprika and Paranoia Agent, I really want to request another Satoshi Kon film. However, I'm going to go with South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'm from Wenatchee, WA but currently living in Hanoi, Vietnam.
