THE YEAR IN REV-

It has been my custom to wait for the first of the new year to publish my list of the top 10 movies of the year and all sorts of other year-that-was tidbits; I know the thing to do is have such a list ready in mid-December, but I'm stubborn and old-fashioned, and I don't like to eulogise the year while it's still alive.

Also, I like to make sure that I see everything that I need to, so my lists aren't half-assed and incomplete, and here we come to the issue. There are two movies that, despite all my tricks, I haven't been able to scrounge up; both of them have I think an excellent chance of being extremely high up on my list; both of them open in Chicago on January 14th, and not an hour earlier.* Which means that I won't be able to finish my list until, at the earliest, January 16th, and right now that's the day I plan on publishing it (it's also part of the reason why my top 115 of all time lists began after December 28, instead of ending on December 28 like I planned; that, and a brutally busy Christmas week).

Thanks for you patience; in the meantime, here's a sneak preview: Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole did not make the cut.

  1. That's why I never do best of year lists. I see comparatively few new releases (particularly in the last three of four years), and I don't get to see most of them in their year of actual release simply because they take too long to come here.

Just a few rules so that everybody can have fun: ad hominem attacks on the blogger are fair; ad hominem attacks on other commenters will be deleted. And I will absolutely not stand for anything that is, in my judgment, demeaning, insulting or hateful to any gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion. And though I won't insist on keeping politics out, let's think long and hard before we say anything particularly inflammatory.

Also, sorry about the whole "must be a registered user" thing, but I do deeply hate to get spam, and I refuse to take on the totalitarian mantle of moderating comments, and I am much too lazy to try to migrate over to a better comments system than the one that comes pre-loaded with Blogger.
