TIM AT TFE: FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER

Disney animation being something of a thing around here, I'm planning my customary book-length review of the newly released Frozen, almost certainly to go up on Monday. In the meantime, my short, initial thoughts are available right now at The Film Experience.

  1. Ok, maybe not the best in TWO decades, but I honestly haven't enjoyed a WDAS feature that much since Emperor's New Groove back in 2000. I put it a tier above the Tangled and Wreck-It Ralphs of the world, and I'm sad to say but I never shared your enthusiasm for Winnie the Pooh(2011). I came out of there with the biggest smile in my face any movie gave me this year; if that makes me a prisoner of the moment, so be it!

Incidentally Tim, I've always wondered; is that a Mii as your avatar over there? Should we exchange friend codes!?

  2. "Let It Go" is probably the most literal execution of the phrase "Elphaba sings a Disney song," but I'm pretty hot on "Defying Gravity" anyway, so I thought it was a treat. Plus, it accompanies the most flat-out gorgeous scene in an already gobsmacking movie.

I need to let it sit for a bit, maybe see it again, but for now, I am very, very satisfied with Frozen.

  3. I had hoped this movie would be centered around Elsa as well, but it has been clear for a quite a while that DIsney decided that we need Anna as our main heroine instead the film being more of an ensemble piece. Disney in general seem to shy away from having more than one main character.

Looking forward to your book length review, however since you most likely go heavily to spoiler territory I will not read it before late December when Frozen comes to my country.

  4. Quick question before I go book tickets to watch it next week when it comes out here: Is Get a Horse! alone worth the 3D admission price?

  5. That's a good question. Honestly, I saw the thing on a screener DVD, and I'll be checking it out in 3D myself on Sunday. My gut tells me that Frozen itself would benefit, and from what I've heard of the Mickey short, it sounds essential.

Just a few rules so that everybody can have fun: ad hominem attacks on the blogger are fair; ad hominem attacks on other commenters will be deleted. And I will absolutely not stand for anything that is, in my judgment, demeaning, insulting or hateful to any gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion. And though I won't insist on keeping politics out, let's think long and hard before we say anything particularly inflammatory.

Also, sorry about the whole "must be a registered user" thing, but I do deeply hate to get spam, and I refuse to take on the totalitarian mantle of moderating comments, and I am much too lazy to try to migrate over to a better comments system than the one that comes pre-loaded with Blogger.
