THE DEATH OF ANTAGONY & ECSTASY

This will be the last new post on Antagony & Ecstasy, almost eleven and a half years after the first one. It has been a good and steady companion to me, and I cannot fathom what my life would look like without it. I'd never have gone to graduate school, that's for damn sure, and I would, of course, never have had the pleasure of getting to know my many readers who have been regular commenters, and even those of you who've never commented, know that I still thank you for all your support and readership over the year.

Monday morning, my new collaboration with the very lovely Carrie and Rob Jarosinski, Alternate Ending will be going live at http://www.alternateending.com/. Hopefully, other than updating your bookmarks and your RSS feeds, there won't be any difference: the same reviews and assorted commentary I've been writing here will be present at the new site, but with a shiny coat of paint that isn't an ancient Blogspot template. It might be a little rocky and incomplete at first, but by the time we're all done on the back-end, I'm sure you're all going to love the new digs.

The fact is, I've been wanting to move beyond these familiar but dated confines for years, and only my own outrageous laziness has keep me from doing it. So my great thanks to Carrie and Rob for finally pushing me to take this long-overdue step.

And with that, I bid you all a good day and a good weekend. If all goes well, this post will be lost to the mists of 301 re-directs, but if you're still seeing it after 16 January, 2017, well, just go ahead and skip over to http://www.alternateending.com/. Otherwise, I look forward to introducing all of you to the new place on Monday, where I hope we'll have many more years together.

  4. I've been coming to A&E for years. It's my favorite film review site for sure. This feels like the end of an era, and those things always make me feel a bit sad. Being an old fart, I'm increasingly allergic to change. Which is stupid because it sounds like the new place will have everything I love here plus more exciting and new things. A podcast? Oh dear sweet Jesus YES.

Be prepared- if you do another charity fundraiser, I'll ask that you revisit one of your old reviews. The prospect of hearing your Foodfight or Lady in the Water review READ ALOUD would be the most amazing thing ever. I'm already saving up for it.

Good luck and congratulations on the move!

  6. I've been coming to this site for years and it was a major influence on me to pursue scriptwriting at graduate school. It has been a wonderful educational resource.Tim, your analysis is second to none (even when I disagree with you). Thanks and best wishes for the future!

  7. Been reading for years, but never commented. I have to say, I love your thoughtful and incisive reviews and I always look forward to reading your take on a film after I've seen it. I will of course continue to read your work with great enthusiasm but I thought I might use this juncture to express my admiration for your work, and say best wishes going forward!

  9. Thanks for everything Tim, it's been a blast.

But, as a wise woman once sang, this is good night but not goodbye. ;)

  10. Although I think this is maybe only my third comment, I do want to chime in and just say how much I've loved this site. It's broadened my film-watching habits, delighted me with erudite and frequently hilarious writing, and inspired me to blog on my own. Thanks for all you've done so far, Tim, and I'm looking forward to lurking on the new site for years to come!

  12. Nobody does this better than you, Tim.

I guess I'll take your word for it re: Carrie and Rob's loveliness, but it will be tough losing this space, where yours was the sole guiding voice.

For years now, your website has been my first destination after seeing a new film (and sometimes before, in my weaker moments) and your analysis has done so much to deepen the audience experience for all of us. Thank you!

  13. Old fart here too and I am quite too comfy with my 6 daily bookmarks to like the change in format, but as long as i can visit your EXTENSIVE archives of disney encyclopedia, pratchett sendoff, potter mania and pixar adulation, I'll live. Pouring one out for the old digs, and thanks for all the fish!

  14. Hey Tim, A&E has been my favourite site for movie reviews for over ten years now. This is probably comment number 3 from me in all those years, but just wanted to say: love your stuff, loved this site, looking forward to loving the new one!

Just a few rules so that everybody can have fun: ad hominem attacks on the blogger are fair; ad hominem attacks on other commenters will be deleted. And I will absolutely not stand for anything that is, in my judgment, demeaning, insulting or hateful to any gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion. And though I won't insist on keeping politics out, let's think long and hard before we say anything particularly inflammatory.

Also, sorry about the whole "must be a registered user" thing, but I do deeply hate to get spam, and I refuse to take on the totalitarian mantle of moderating comments, and I am much too lazy to try to migrate over to a better comments system than the one that comes pre-loaded with Blogger.
